Car fire accidents can result in vehicle scrapping in mild cases and casualties in severe cases.
1. Causes of car fires
The reasons for the sudden rise of car fires are multifaceted, such as short circuits, leakage, looseness of high-voltage circuits inside the car, or backfire of carburetors, oil leaks in the oil circuit, or overheating of the battery, all of which can easily lead to the occurrence of fires. In addition, the interior decoration of cars and the use of flammable and combustible materials in tires can easily cause fires to spread rapidly and pose a danger.
2. Measures to prevent car fires
Drivers should regularly inspect, repair, and maintain the vehicle before driving, checking whether the low and high voltage circuits are short circuited, leaking, or loose; Check whether the carburetor is backfiring, whether the oil circuit is leaking, and whether the exhaust pipe is firing. If there are any problems, they should be repaired immediately; Keep the battery vent unobstructed; It is also necessary to cultivate good habits and educate passengers not to carry flammable and explosive materials on board, and not to smoke or litter cigarette butts in the car.
Another very important thing is to raise awareness of fire safety. You must equip your car with fire extinguishers. Every time I go to the scene of a car fire, I almost always find a used small fire extinguisher thrown next to the burning car. In the face of the raging fire, this small fire extinguisher is simply a drop in the bucket, and the driver can only stand on the side helpless. So, corresponding fire extinguishers should be equipped according to the size of the vehicle. Ordinary cars should be equipped with at least one medium-sized fire extinguisher, while large buses and trucks should be equipped with several larger fire extinguishers accordingly, in order to be prepared and minimize losses.
III. Firefighting Measures and Escape Methods for Car Fires
One is that when the car engine catches fire, the driver should quickly stop the car, let the passengers open the door and get off the car by themselves, then cut off the power, remove the on-board fire extinguisher, aim it at the front of the flame at the burning area, and spray fiercely to extinguish the flame.
The second is that when a fire is found in the cargo of a car carriage, the driver should drive the car away from key areas (or places where people are concentrated), stop it, and quickly report to the fire brigade. At the same time, the driver should promptly remove the onboard fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire. When the fire cannot be extinguished for a while, onlookers should be advised to stay away from the scene to avoid an explosion accident that may cause innocent casualties and expand the disaster.
Thirdly, when a fire occurs during the refueling process of a car, the driver should not panic and should immediately stop refueling. Quickly drive the car out of the gas station (depot) and extinguish the flames on the fuel tank with the onboard fire extinguisher, gas station fire extinguisher, clothing, etc. If there is scattered fuel on the ground, use a fire extinguisher or sand in the storage area to extinguish the ground fire.
Fourthly, when a fire occurs during the repair of a car, the repair personnel should quickly get on the car or drill out of the trench, quickly cut off the power, and use fire extinguishers or other firefighting equipment to extinguish the flames.
Fifth, when a car is hit and a fire occurs, due to the damage of the hit vehicle's components, the casualties of passengers are relatively serious, and the primary task is to try to save people. If the car door is not damaged, the door should be opened to allow passengers to escape, and both methods can be used simultaneously. At the same time, drivers can use tools such as expanders, cutters, jacks, and fire axes to cooperate with the fire brigade in rescuing people and extinguishing fires.
When a fire occurs in a parking lot, firefighting and evacuation measures should generally be taken based on the location of the train vehicles. If a car is on fire in the middle of a parking lot, personnel should be organized to evacuate the surrounding parked vehicles while extinguishing the fire. If a car catches fire on one side of the parking lot, the evacuation of vehicles connected to the fire should be organized while extinguishing the fire.
When a bus fire occurs, due to the large number of people on board, it is important to remain calm and decisive. Firstly, rescue and reporting should be considered, and evacuation and firefighting methods should be determined based on the specific location of the fire. If the fire is on the engine of a bus, the driver should open all doors to allow passengers to disembark, and then organize firefighting efforts. If the fire is in the middle of the car, after the driver opens the door, passengers should get off from both doors, and the driver and passengers should then extinguish and control the fire. If the wiring on the car is burned out and the doors cannot be opened, passengers can get off through the nearest window. If the flames block the car door and it is difficult for people to get out of the car window, you can use clothing to cover your head and rush out from the car door. When the clothes of the driver and passengers are burned, if time permits, they can quickly take off their clothes and use their feet to extinguish the fire; If it is too late, passengers can use clothing to beat or cover the fire with clothing to suffocate and extinguish it, or extinguish the flames on their clothes on the spot.
