As an important component of the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), the World Conference on Cutting edge Technologies (WCST) made its debut at the CIFTIS Summit Forum under the theme of "Technology for a Better Future". The conference lasted for two days and consisted of an opening ceremony and three parallel forums. The conference was first addressed by Mr. Ma Peihua, Vice Chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and former Executive Chairman of the Central Committee of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of China.
Mr. Ma Peihua stated in his speech that cutting-edge technology is the main battlefield of great power competition, which is related to the national destiny of various countries, as well as the pattern and direction of the world in the next few decades. Therefore, major countries such as Europe, America, Japan, and South Korea are vigorously strengthening their strategic layout in cutting-edge technologies such as quantum, artificial intelligence, and nanotechnology. In 2022, the United States updated and refined its Critical and Emerging Technologies (CET) List, and the U.S. House of Representatives passed the 2022 U.S. Competition Act, approving $160 billion for cutting-edge technology research in quantum, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and other fields; The US Department of Defense has also increased investment in emerging technologies such as quantum, biology, and radio.
Mr. Ma Peihua believes that the development of cutting-edge technology is not only related to the strategic position of each country in the future, but also to the overall development of humanity. Following Academician Zhou Ji, Academician Wang Hao, an academician of the CAE Member, director of the State Key Laboratory for Basin Water Cycle Simulation and Regulation, and honorary director of the Institute of Water Resources of the Chinese Academy of Water Resources and Hydropower Sciences, presented a keynote report entitled "A New Way to Complement Solar Energy, Water Storage and Multi energy", which showed the audience the cutting-edge scientific and technological progress and industrial application in the field of new energy power generation and energy storage.

With China's implementation of export controls on key materials in the semiconductor industry, gallium and germanium, a pattern of the United States controlling chips and China controlling raw materials has been formed.
